We were glued to the TV last night to watch the return of RTE’s hit show Home of the Year. The Irish classic pits three home owners against each other to show off their unique, beautiful and sometimes quite quirky homes to win the top spot each week.
This season sees the return of Hugh Wallace and he’s joined by two new judges to inspect the first houses of the new series.

We wouldn’t have been the only ones last night who instantly recognised the Instagram famous black barn from Cork.
David’s self build barn has amassed thousands of followers and fans (us included!) on Instagram over the past couple of years.
Nervous but very excited about welcoming you all into my home this evening. What a whirlwind it’s been since I announced that my home would be appearing on Home of the Year last Friday.

David inherited the site in Cork and said “All of the furniture in the house I have bargain hunted and collected over the last 15 years at car boots, second hand shops, antique auctions, done deal, adverts etc.”
We’re absolutely sure David’s black barn will continue to inspire thousands of wannabe self-build builders across Ireland and beyond (as well as those slightly less adventurous among us who just want modern Irish interior inspiration).
Follow his Instagram account below (but be prepared for serious house envy!)
The search for Ireland’s “Home of the Year” continues on RTE One next Tuesday at 8:30pm.
